Physical fitness
You need to be able to walk for 4-6 hours on uneven terrain with a full backpack. Consider that you also need to do it for a couple of days in a row (every fourth day is a day of rest).
Outdoor experience
You need to be comfortable sleeping in a tent and living in the outdoors for a while. That is, not glamping nor camping but washing in streams, pooping in the woods and so on.
Patience
You need the patience to cross a continent by train. Twice. Of course, you are in good company and we bring nice things to eat and drink, still, actually having nothing to do is quite a difference from most people's everyday.
Would you like to come along but are unsure whether the trip is for you? Send me an email and we'll have a chat!
It's always good to travel light. Apart from clothes for layering, you'll need to bring a comfortable backpack (at least 50 litres), waterproof boots, a sleeping bag, something to read or keep you occupied on the train, as well as some other small things. I take care of the rest.
If there is something you do not have, or think is not good enough for the trip, let me know! I have gear I can rent or lend you, and if you want to purchase something new, I am happy to give you pointers.
Apart from visiting a uniquely beautiful part of the world, the trip also coincides with the summer solstice and we travel so we can partake in two different traditions of celebration.
If the length of the trip does not fit with your schedule, it can be modified to include a solo return that is more suitable.
Worth repeating is that the price includes everything from start to finish. That is, everything-everything and no extras whatsoever. Feel like leaving the wallet at home? Go ahead!
